two shells
This piece plays with the idea of multiple interpretations of natural forms. How shells can look like wings simply by changing their scale and orientation.
These are based on Donkey’s ear Abalone shells, a tropical sea snail / gastropod mollusk about 3cms in length. As sea snails they have a single shell that always has a clockwise spiral and so to make the pairing I had to carve a mirror image
